I attended the Finnish whisky festival, Uisge, on Saturday. The political strikes disrupted my plans to go there on Friday, so I organized a short visit on saturday instead. I hadn’t planned to taste anything particular beforehand and just enjoyed conversations with other Finnish whisky bloggers.

Inside, I saw fellow whisky bloggers enjoying a cask sample from Glen Scotia, so the first dram was selected, and it turned out to be the best one of the evening. I had great chats with Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia brand ambassador Alan Reid about the distilleries and their whiskies.

The second stand was Glasgow distillery with their Cognac cask finish and Uisge festival bottle, peated Marsala wine cask selected for Finland. Seb Bunford did a great job explaining Glasgow Distillery and their vision for whiskies.

The Glasgow Cognac cask finish was the best Cognac-finished whisky I have tried!

Then I headed to the Valamo distillery stand and tried their selected festival bottle, a 9-year-old church wine cask-matured monastery whisky. It was a well-balanced, sweet, and tasty whisky, one of the best from the evening. I had a lovely chat with father Nasari.

I made my way to the Vinic stand, where they had the English Distillery, Penderyn, and Two Stacks Irish represented. The English Distillery’s 15-year-old Madeira cask was superb, and Mike from the English Distillery shared great stories and information about the distillery. Penderyn ex-Tawny Port single cask was one of the surprises of the evening! Two Stacks dram in a can is a great idea and perfect for an outdoor person like me. Just grab it with you and have a dram from a can.

And I heard a rumor that Vinic is going to bring Tomatins to Finland!

Interbrands is always a stand to go for a dram because of their brands Tamnavulin and Jura. Tamnavulin is a great bang for a buck choice. But this time, I went for Jura 1990 rare vintage. Delicious whisky, and I had a lovely chat with Enni at their stand.

The people make the Uisge festival. The festival might need a fresh makeover, but I just love the fact that all new and old faces talking about whisky and stuff make the whole festival alive. So, thank you everyone who stopped to talk and exchanged thoughts while enjoying a dram!
